Part G — Move, backup, snapshot, restore, clone

G.1 Move a virtual disk — /vms/move?name=

Lead: The virtual machine stays on and is not restarted. The moved disk keeps the same device, the same bus, and the same disk identity.

Field / buttonMeaning

Target datastoreDestination store (must be mounted)
FolderDestination folder or root

Close moveLeave the page
Use the new diskSwitch to the completed copy when offered
When the selected image is unavailableKeep this image / Use the next available image

Use Move to relocate a disk to faster storage, another folder, or shared cluster storage without changing the guest’s view of the disk.

G.2 Backup — /vms/backup?name=

Field / buttonMeaning
Target datastore + folderWhere the backup link/copy is stored
Toorce Virtual Disk copy modeOne disk image or Each storage path (when VM has TVD)

Field / buttonMeaning
Target datastore + folderWhere snapshot data is kept
TVD modeOne image or each path
